VOMP General / MVP / Convert VOB for VOMP
May 18, 2011, 12:54:11
Can anyone post directions on how to convert unencrypted VOB files to a format that can be viewed using VOMP?
I would prefer to view them as regular VDR recordings, but failing that using the VOMP Mediaplayer would be ok.

Thanks

Vomp For Windows / Pre-alpha HDTV playback
February 17, 2010, 13:16:25
I do not have a Windows system which I could volunteer to test HDTV playback but I am curious about this.

What are the software requirements at the moment? Does it work with XP, Vista or Windows7?

Depending on hardware support, how is hardware decoding and most importantly deinterlacing enabled?

VOMP General / MVP / New switch = boot problem
November 03, 2009, 09:34:08
I recently changed my broadband adsl router which I also use a the main switch in my home ethernet network. Now my mvp will not boot the vompclient. I changed back to my old router/switch and it works fine. Both routers are set as the network dhcp server. If the vompserver is not running I can ping the mvp at its dhcp assigned address, but after it has loaded the dongle it disappears from the network. Ping gets no response and after some time even the mac address disappears from arp. The new router is a Thomson TG585.

Anybody know why one switch would work and another will not?

Here is my vompserver.log

VOMP General / MVP / Vomp source documentation
July 28, 2009, 13:55:20
Can anyone give any hints on how a novice coder like me could begin to understand how vompserver works?
I pushed the vompserver source code through doxygen but it does not help much.

In addition is the communications protocol documented anywhere?

Thanks

VOMP General / MVP / Error building vomp client
April 21, 2008, 23:58:13
I am trying to use the makedevenv-5 script to build the latest Vomp client but I get this error:

applying patch /home/stuart/vompbuild/crosstool/crosstool-0.43/patches/glibc-2.2.5/glibc-2.2.5-allow-gcc-4.0-configure.patch

Anybody know what is wrong here?

I compared the file gcc-3.4.5-glibc-2.2.5/glibc-2.2.5/configure to the patch file and I cannot see why the patch does not work.

VOMP General / MVP / Request for formal release
March 27, 2008, 10:34:35
Any chance of a formal release to coincide with the latest stable vdr 1.6.0?
#9
I'm getting this error when building vompserver release 0.2.7 under the latest stable vdr 1.6.0

g++ -O2 -fPIC -Wall -Woverloaded-virtual -Werror -c -D_GNU_SOURCE -DPLUGIN_NAME_
I18N='"vompserver"' -I../../../include -I/include -o mvpreceiver.o mvpreceiver.c

e(cChannel*, int)':
mvpreceiver.c:6: warning: the address of 'NeedsDetachReceivers' will always eval
uate as 'true'
make[1]: *** [mvpreceiver.o] Error 1

How do I fix this?
Any chance of another stable release of vomp that builds nicely with the latest stable vdr 1.6.0?

Vomp For Windows / Viewing High Definition
August 23, 2007, 09:36:22
Would I be right in saying that providing your Windows machine is set up correctly for watching high definition video (h.264 and vc1) then it is possible to watch high definition recordings and transmissions with VDR and Vomp for Windows?

Anyone tried this with the BBC high definition satellite (or Crystal Palace DVB-t) transmissions and care to share their experience?

How close is the design of Vomp server to the UPnP AV version 2 specification?
http://www.upnp.org/specs/av/default.asp

How difficult would it be to convert Vomp server plugin to work with UPnP clients like the Netgear EVA8000 for example?
I refer to the EVA8000 in particular with an eye to future high definition capability.

Version 2 of UPnP AV adds record timer scheduling and EPG capability on top of the media streaming in version 1.

What are the ideal conditions under which to run VDR with Vompserver?

For example:
VDR Nice level?
Nice level relative to other apps, daemons and stuff running at the same time?
Pre-emptive kernel?
Kernel timer 250Hz? 1000Hz?
Quantity of system memory?
Processor speed? Mobile processor frequency scaling to save power?
Should the hard disk be defragmented on a regular basis?
Can using other applications on the same machine like web browsing, interfere with VDR operation?

Is it even worth worrying about?

I am running VDR with Vompserver for the front end and I am keen to get other peoples opinions on their optimum setup.

Would it be possible to highlight areas on the EPG display with a different colour to indicate what time and what channels timers are set to record?

This would be useful to avoid trying to set a timer to record a program that already has a timer.

VOMP General / MVP / Feature Request: UK MHEG
January 11, 2007, 11:42:47
How about adding digital text capability to Vomp?

The RedButton MHEG Engine at http://redbutton.sourceforge.net/
is an active project that allows you to use interactive MHEG
applications.

Maybe this could be incorporated into Vomp?
This might need to work in conjunction with the vdr-mhp plugin

VOMP General / MVP / Sync on green problem
December 14, 2006, 13:40:01
I have just bought a new tv and now have the dreaded sync on green problem.

For those uninitiated, the MediaMVP combines the sync signal with the green signal. This causes a problem with some tv sets. If the tv set does not like it the picture in RGB mode has a strong green cast to it.

The only way I can get round it is by reverting to composite video by disconnecting the RGB select/fast blanking pin of the scart connector. I cannot use s-video because the scart inputs on my tv don't support it.

Is there the slimmest chance the sync on green can be disabled in the mvp dongle?

This has been requested on the Hauppauge mvp forum over a year ago but was never done so I'm not confident it ever will.

VOMP General / MVP / Failed IR remote
July 09, 2006, 22:58:24
I am experiencing some strange behaviour with the IR remote control for my MediaMVP. It is the 'old' style remote.
Just recently the remote has stopped working with Vomp.
However the remote control still works ok when using the MVP with the Hauppauge server software it came with that runs on Windows.
It used to work just fine with Vomp 2.2 and I also used it with a 'homebrew' serial LIRC receiver for remote control of Linux apps, but that stopped working to at the same time.
The LED on the front of the unit flashes to indicate it is receiving something, but there is no response on the TV menu.
If I could hazard a guess it's as if the remote has changed the code it transmits but is still recognisable by the Hauppauge software.
I have replaced the batteries with new ones.
Can anyone suggest what is going on here?
Time to get a replacement remote?

VOMP General / MVP / Stuck RGB select signal
January 27, 2006, 11:39:15
Hi
I am using Dongle 0.1.1 and client 0.1.
I find that when I put my MediaMVP into standby, my TV screen goes black.
I am then unable to watch any TV. This is because the RGB select signal of
the SCART connector is still asserted by the MediaMVP.

Maybe the dongle should select composite mode before going to standby?
