Hello,

I do not own a MVP yet but i got the possibility to place my vdrserver at my employer (ISP).
I got a 16Mbit down-/500kbit uptream ADSL-Link at home. So, almost 100ms between
client and server. What do you think ? Shoud i give vomp a try or should i forget
that idea immediately?

   Thanks Olli

Chris

It might work... In my experience TV channels don't use more than 5Mbps so you have the throughput required. As for network latency, I couldn't really say how it might affect vomp, I don't think anyone has tried it. If you are going to have a problem with it then it will be on live TV streaming, not recording playback.

I had a thought the other day.. If you do this your MVP won't be able to connect to VDR because it uses broadcast packets to find the server. This isn't a show stopper though, you could just hard code in your server IP address and miss out the broadcast stage. It would require a couple of lines of code in the client, but that should be something everyone can do now with the new development environment build script! ;)
