Hi all,

is it possible to play an record or live stream with dolby digital an 5.1 sound?

i have mod the mvp like here: http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Mediamvp_AC3_nachr%C3%BCsten (german)  ... here http://home.xnet.com/~stuart/images/mediamvp/index.shtml (english).

the normal sound comes yet only over the tos link cable .. it ist digital but only pcm / stereo..

greetings mentox

So far as I know there is no support inside the VOMP code for Dolby Digital output.
Before support for Dolby Digital will be introduced (even as a condition one of the mvp developers must have this dolby  mod too), audio track selection have to implemented.
Also changes in the demuxer etc. has to be made.

Hi Marten,
this ist the text from the mod site. Doesn't it say that 5.1 is working?

I have been using Linux and the extracted "DONGLE.BIN" file to power my MediaMVP. Interestingly, I have noticed the SPDIF/TOSLINK output of the MediaMVP using this software is capable of outputting different sampling rates. Here, I am sending data from a MP3 which originated from a CD. You can see the amp has identified the signal as having a frequency of 44.1KHz.

And here, I am sending the MediaMVP a video which originated on a ReplayTV Personal Video Recorder. Note the sampling rate is now 48KHz.

I have just said thet in the vomp software is currently no code that will output ac3.
I have not said that it is not possible to output 5.1 in general with the mvp.

Hi,

I'm about to purchase a MediaMVP and have seen that there is a hardware mod to get AC3. Great, because AC3 is a must in my case  ;D
Does anybody know if AC3 is on VOMP's todo list?

Thanks,

winni

hello,

I recall a post of some low level (ASM) code for AC3 (it assumed the HW mods were done) on the SHS site a while back. The implication being that it *can* being done, but integrating that into the vomp, esp the player mods and the user interface tweaks to allow choosing audio channels...  will all be a bit of a task. Doable, but not trivial.

vomp rocks,

any changes ??

without ac3 and dolby digital it is only a half box ... i miss the great sound :-(

i can patch the mvp for you if you need one to develop this feature :-)

thanks to all

So far ac3 support will only be availiable on the next windows version.
The problem with ac3 output for the mvp is that the necessary register of the mvp cpu, that indicate how much sound is played are not known.
The guys at mvpmc are investigating this a long time, but up to now with no result.
So that it would be possible to output ac3, but the ac3 audio but go fast out of sync with the video.
This would be horrible to watch and is not useful for watching tv.
I think if the guys at mvpmc manage to get ac3 playback in sync, what means investigating the cpu register, this can be adapted in vomp.
But unless this is known the ac3 output would be of very small use.

The problem is that ibm has not released specs of their cpu in the public and these details needs reengenering.
