Ok, I found it myself.

The wMVP uses the Samsung MagicLAN SWL-2610c CF Card for wireless. Inside, there is an Texas Instruments TNETW1130 chipset, aka ACX100/ACX111. There is an open source driver for it, found under http://acx100.sourceforge.net/

This driver however only support WEP security with Kernel 2.4.x
The latest drivers support WPA(2), but only with Kernel 2.6.x, which we don´t have on MediaMVP.  :'(

It makes no sense, to unsecure the whole network with WEP, to run just one wMVP wirelessly.

Option 1: Using Kernel 2.6.x on MediaMVP. I think this will never be the case, because there are some Kernelmodules missing for the IBM Processor.

Option 2: Find a different CF WLAN Module with a better supported Chipset, maybe Atheros. The Problem is, the development of such CF WLAN Modules stopped around 2005/2006 and most of them are only 11MBit, which is too slow for transferring TV.

Hey everyone!

This is my first post here, so I just wanna say THANK YOU for vomp. It is an pretty easy way to watch TV, without a big and noisy client.

My problem now is, that I want to have a MVP in a room, where I can´t install network cable. Atm, I use an AP in client mode, whitch is connected to the MVP by Cable and to my Router by wireless. And the Router is connected to VDR by Cable again. This setup is working, but since this room is my bedroom, I don´t want to have two devices instead of one.

I searched around this forum, the mvpmc forum and with google, but I can´t find the answer, why the wireless part of wMVP is not supportet, only that it is not (yet) supported. What is the mayor problem to support the wireless part? Is this driver related, because the hardware is so special, or what kind of problem? Maybe its only, because noone has asked/needed before? In VDR Portal I found a posting of MartenR, that the wireless part is already in CVS. This was in 2007.

I hope someone can bring light to the darkness. And maybe (hopefully) we can start to support the wireless part, when it is not impossible.

Thank you
Marcus
