Thanks, it's working like charm!

Chris: This is GREAT news.
Is it going to be DVB or teletext subtitles (or both)?
As I have said on other threats, we (in Finland) could use both because our national TV-stations send DVB subtitles.
Then there is for example TV1000 and Canal+ that use teletext subtitles.

Thanks for good news, I can start planning buying additional MVP:s then :P

this function can't be inverted to a sleep timer by any chance, can it?

your efforts are much appreciated!

P.S hmm. reading through your text again... i seem to have misunderstood.
it's a "what to do on powerup" option, isn't it?

Yes it is. You can select in the Preference Menu, wether the vompclient start with TV (Channel1) or with Radio (Channel 1)
or let's the default.

Quotethis function can't be inverted to a sleep timer by any chance, can it?
At the moment I don't see any chanche for it.

DVB subtitles. As far as I know there is no teletext over DVB-T in the UK, so realistically, developing that will probably have to be done by someone in another country. (Perhaps there is teletext on DVB-S or -C in the UK?)

Thanks hondansx !
Just want to check I'm doing things right, as some of the nice features of 0.2.7.6.1 seem to be missing in 0.3.0.1 - like the mediaplayer video and scrolling summary for long EPG entries from XMLTV.
Is that right?
Thanks

I didn't update my patch for the scrolling of EPG programme summary. So confirmed it cannot be included.
My biggest issue is rather that I have no clue how to do scrolling now in Live-TV with the old remote. There is just no button left...
Any ideas?

Guess I'm pretty happy with 0.2.7.6.1. and was hoping the functionality could/would remain as the core software was improved.
I'll look again

My 1st post here (I think), but I just wanted to say that S4C on S28.2E carries English-language teletext subtitles for much of its Welsh-language programming, on page 888. It also has occasional Welsh-language subtitles on page 889, but I've never managed to get that working in VDR.

Here in germany, there is both teletxt subs and dvb subs, so if it for you a problem to make the teletxt stuff, I will add this after the dvb stuff is working while the windows adaption is made.

I'll give this a look in a little bit, but wanted to confirm which of the two dongles I should use?  I have three vomp's which share a common dongle, two connected to small 4:3 tv's, the other to a 16:9 flatscreen.  Or do I need to both and specify which by mac address?

Is the avi playback from the media centre updates in your latest dongle too?  Is there any advantage to trying the link from the other forum, or is yours up to date?

I think you can take one dongle for all and configure the one with the flat to 16:9.
If you want to force 16:9 on the flat then you can take the separete 16:9 dongle.
Yes the aviplayback is integrated and it doesn't matter which link you try, because it's the same  ;)

It's on it's way...

The avi playback works about the same as it did with the 2.7 dongle with media, however, after about 15 mins the whole things crashes.  When you telnet into the box the vompclient application is no more, so I guess something is causing a seg fault.

Am also wondering how to playback DVD's, I have moderate success by associating .VOB files with a mencoder dvd:// function.  I will probably create a playlist to select different tracks and audio tracks.. (One DVD I had decided to playback in spanish?).  Again it suffers from the above problem after a few mins.
Title: Re: Vomp Extension Dongle/Server Version 0.3.0-5
Post by: dingo35 on December 08, 2008, 16:41:57
I have a functional change request for the vompclient (dongle). At the moment I am building a plugin for VDR which will load automatically all available known European Extended EPG formats (2 - 7 day EPG for Premiere, CanalDigitaalNL, CSat, Cyfra, Digital+, Sky UK, Sky italy and perhaps also the UK Freesat format). At the moment VDR just ignores this information.
In this plugin, according to DVB specifications, I am placing the Theme-ID of the EPG in the "short description" S of vdr, with the duration appended to it. So you get short descriptions like
MOVIE 93"  , or HORROR 120" , well you get the picture. Lots of Providers give the same EPG info in the same description field.
The actual description I am placing in the "extended description" field D of vdr, again, like lots of providers do.

When using these fields, and looking in the EPG through the Live TV menu, all is OK.

But, looking in the list of recordings, choosing the "summary" entry, I only get the short description, even when there is an extended description available. The screen is large enough to display all info, and it works OK when there is no short description available. Lots of providers don't provide this short description, that's why nobody notices the "suboptimal" behaviour of vomp-client.

IMHO this code:
  summary = (char*)Info->ShortText();
  if (isempty(summary)) summary = (char*)Info->Description();

can be easily improved to something like this:

char *tmp;
asprintf(&tmp, "%s\n\n%s",Info->ShortText, Info->Description);
summary = tmp;
.....
free(tmp);

This way, always all available info will be displayed.

I have no vompclient development environment, so havent tested code above...

Would it be possible to take this into next vompclient version(s)?

Thanks in advance!

1. Could you please provide more details, how the crash happens. e.g in the same avi, at the same time or randomly in one/every avi etc....
2. telnet to mvp, kill vompclient process (kill -9 pid) and start it again with './vompclient -d' and post last messages when it is crashed.
3. While the code is taken from Andreas Vogel, post your results here: http://forum.loggytronic.com/index.php?topic=248.135

Thanks for the hint. I suggest following: First show the extended description. If there is none take the sort Description:

//Yaris - First we want the Description, next we take ShortText
summary = (char*)Info->Description();
if (isempty(summary)) summary = (char*)Info->ShortText();

I'm also missing following line for the processGetChannelSchedule

thisEventSubTitle = event->GetSubtitle();

It is in the block "#if VDRVERSNUM < 10300", but not in the block of the newer version. There it is only:

thisEventSubTitle = NULL;

For sure not yet used in VOMP client, but I would like to have it in QtVomp.

Dear all,

I have a strange problem when compiling vompserver plugin for vdr 1.6.0-8ctvdr2 from lenny e-tobi repo.

Plugin compiles without warnings. Will be loaded without problems. Will play recordings as expected.

Bit when watching life tv, connection to sever is lost. With Windows 0.3.0-1 and 0.3.0 dongle that I did
on my own (as I prefer * and # to skip 5 Minutes over ads, instead of only 10 seconds).

No errors in logs found so far...

Any ideas?

Hi,

3 ideas

1. you could try increase/decrease tcp windows size under properties?!
2. Check your network?! (full/halfduplex misconfiguration or and switch)
3. I had "the connection to sever is lost" in other situations and if changed the vdr version from 1.6.0/1.7.0 to 1.7.2 with extensionspatch and livebuffer activated this problems are gone.

So no more problems with lenny and selfcompiled vdr1.7.2 since weeks.

Maybe it help`s,

Bye Walter

Thanks,

I'll check that tonight. But I doubt it will help. I have to switch on a kind of log, I think I can probably
do that on the MVP.

It's a Lenny installation. The only thing I changed was the plugin. It was replaced by a self-compiled
plugin. Can you somehow send me yours to let me try out? I'll try to send you may email by pn.

Is it, by the way, necessary to change the dongle, too? I mean, Vomp for Windows also crashed and
I see no chance to change that...

BR,
Carsten.

Well, no change with that combination:

  - Lenny vdr 1.6.0-8ctvdr2
  - self-compiled 0.3.0-8
  - either selfcompiled dongle 0.3.0, distro 0.3.0-2 or 0.3.0-8

With distro plugin, things that are expected to work do so.

Here a debug log, which unfortunately doesn't tell me anything. I just pressed the

BR,
Carsten.

{EDIT} I tried now also to compile the distro server plugin, which works binary-wise. Self-compiled will have the same problem.
Also tried to compile in an Etch environment. Also tried plugin 0.3.0-7. I think something is wrong with my plugin build environment.
Could in the meantime someone provide me with a 0.3.0-8 vdr plugin vor vdr 1.6.0 in 32 Bit, please? I will set up another build env now.

{EDIT2} in new build env, still the same. plugins are exactly identical. I have no further ideas...

Well, no change with that combination:

  - either selfcompiled dongle 0.3.0, distro 0.3.0-2 or 0.3.0-8

So far I think the problem is vdr 1.6.0-8ctvdr2. You should upgrade or downgrade vdr or change to another vdrdistro.

Greets,
Walter

I can now positively (although it's negative 8))confirm that using Debian vdr 1.6.0-8 and compiling
the server plugin will work. So e-Tobi's or c't magazine's vdr patches break the plugin code.

Thanks Walter.

Carsten.

I downgraded two days ago from 1.6.0-8ctvdr2 to 1.6.0-6ctvdr1 and everything with vomp extension works fine.

Hi,

vompserverupdate.

Changes:
-Resumemechanism of recordings is now used from vdr. By default every recording is shared.
To deactivate this, write in your vomp-MAC.conf under [General] ResumeId = 1 (one number per client).
For more information see manual of vdr. [ResumeData] in vomp-MAC.conf can be deleted. (Thanks to Dingo)

Walter

Hi,

I see you made a useful improvement for the live TV EPG display
For recordings, the Up and Down arrow keys are still unused (available) for the scrolling feature description.
Would be nice ;D

[/quote]
I didn't update my patch for the scrolling of EPG programme summary. So confirmed it cannot be included.
My biggest issue is rather that I have no clue how to do scrolling now in Live-TV with the old remote. There is just no button left...
Any ideas?

Hi,

WSS doesn't appear to be working on this 0.3.0-10 - not sure when it stopped working as the last I was using was 0.2.7.6.1
My 4:3 recordings are now expanded to fill the 16:9 TV - so everyone needs a diet!
I tried the different settings, but none seem to change the aspect ratio.
The media player is also making 4:3 material expand to 16:9 - was OK before
What's wrong ?
Thx

Hi - below is my conf file.
Looking the list of variables in your email, I see that there was no entry for "Force16x9"
Though I tried all the menu settings, Force16x9 doesn't seem to be set by vompserver
So I added "Force16x9 = No" by hand in the [TV] section.
- so now it works! - Thanks
