Title: humble question: VOMP development
Post by: Harry on July 12, 2007, 19:10:03
hi,

has the development come to a halt or is it only taking
a time-out?
last CVS entries are 2/3 month old... that's why i'm asking.

cheers
Harry

Hi,
for me it is only a time out, since I'm writing the last months and the next months a thesis. After this I will start again with developing on the windows version.

But I can't speak for Chris.

A time-out. Hopefully to end soon.

Lots of work going on at the moment with the GUI code, which will allow me to fix the options screens for the MVP. It's just going on in a different branch in cvs. I will actually be needing testers soon as the GUI code overhaul could be quite unstable for a while until the bugs are found.

After that, it's a audio channel selector for live, perhaps one or two other things off the list, and then a release of 0.2.7.

thanks for this information.
i could only judge the devel status by the age of files in cvs (HTML interface).

audio selector would be great. as for the other features..
you don't happen to be working on FR 1547495? *g*.

If there was a way of sending you beer or coffee or something to aid you in your work, let me know?

Very much looking forward the audio language feature.

As an aside, I have just procurred two more MVP's off ebay, so now have three of them.  However, I am aware that I am not buying them for their software, I am buying them to use with Vomp.  Is there any merit in working out some kind of sales deal with Hauppauge to resell these from the loggytronic site so that some of the profits can go into the development?

For the rest out there, I recommend ebay.

Chris, is this the "r0-2-6b-boxes" branch?
If you want some help testing, let me know, I have a couple of MVP's.  I've just built up a new SuSe 10.3 dual tuner box, not sure if the cross development environment will work OK on that or not.  It worked fine on my SuSe 10.2 box till the 500G HD suffered a sudden cot death :o

Ummm, no :)

Later. Next release after 0.2.7 perhaps.

Not really. Though as I have had a few requests for this, I will look into it in a few versions time when live TV doesn't suck.

The MVP & Hauppauge idea is interesting, I had never even thought of anything like that. It would be a bit like a guarantee of usefulness though wouldn't it? Selling MVPs with vomp attached... Not sure about that :)

@ keynet and all ...

Yes, the new GUI code is/was in the r0-2-6b-boxes branch. It's now in the trunk and ready for testing, I would ask anyone with development environments to update and beta test the new code. It seems reasonably stable to me, but I'm just one user. If/when it crashes, the log output and core file posted to the forum or emailed to me would be useful, as well as a short description of how you managed to crash it.

ulimit -c unlimited    <- drop core files
/vompclient -d          <- with -d switch for logging

You will need to update your vompserver plugin as well, that should be stable.

I am aware that the audio will likely be out of sync if you switch audio streams during live tv playback. Myself and Mark are still working on that.

Thanks, and happy testing.

The new CVS version is working fine for me.

One small nit: In the "Options" menu the left and right buttons navigate between option tabs, however if I try to move too far to the left or right the buttons suddenly become volume controls again - very confusing. In the previous version, pressing the Right button when on the rightmost option screen had no effect.

(This is with the old remote control, BTW.)

oooooh..pity ;)

ok..have downloaded and compiled client and server (latest trunk).
will install and test tonight.

[edit]
hi again,
- first quick tests showed no significant audio-out-of-sync behaviour in live-tv.
- i can not confirm davep's findings about the option menue with a new remote
(cursor button function doesn't change after hitting the edge)
- one minor thing though: let's say a show is televised in GER and ENG. when i press green,
down,OK it turns to ENG. when i hit green again, the cursor is automatically positioned on GER.
however, pressing OK doesn't change back the stream; i have to move down, then up again, then hit
OK to make it change back to GER.

and is it only my imagination or has browsing directories in Media Player become faster?
mp3 songs also appear to start quicker...
nice work!! thx!
[/edit]

cheers

At first glance it all looks reasonable, however I have two problems:

1. When building, I am creating a vompclient application which is too big for the flash image (6996 instead of 4096), I edited the build script to accept anything under 8192 in hope it "would just work" tm.

2. I have it running, but am getting an error in the background jpg display and have a black screen, which I can live with, but am not sure why?

However, the audio language switcher on live tv is working, so I am more than happy.

14:17:40.242267 [debug]  324 BJpeg - File opened Empty input file
14:17:40.590920 [ERR]    324 BJpeg - JPEG error
14:17:40.591997 [ERR]    324 I18n - No translation found for 'Jpeg ERROR' in language 0 (English)

After 2Days of testing, I can say, same good behaviour as before.
BTW. Is there any chance to get this annoying problem fixed, like here described:
http://www.loggytronic.com/forum/index.php?topic=270.0 (http://www.loggytronic.com/forum/index.php?topic=270.0)

Thanks 4 this really good work and piece of Software Chris.

davep: I have fixed the arrow keys I hope, could you update your cvs client and test it, thanks.

harry: I know about the audio selector menu problem, thanks. What is currently in cvs is my first bash at the selector - it is really alpha. If the media player seems faster then ... errr, great!  ::) Must be magic, I don't recall anything at the moment that should be affecting it!

rdoac: did you do make release instead of make? I have created a dongle for myself off the current cvs code and I didn't get that error. Your second problem I am hoping is as a result of your first.

hondansx: Thanks for the testing. As for the problem you mention, it needs fixing another way. Taking out the locking is not the right way to do it, so I expect that will be the version after this one - for now I think you'll just have to keep using the cvs version and your no-locking patch.

Ooops, yes, it was the "make release" I needed.

Thanks Chris..

Chris & others FYI - built CVS from 30/10 and all good so far, live, recording, media (MP3 & photos)  ;D
Environment SuSe 10.3, VDR1.4.7, 2 old style MVP's.
Thanks for the good work and let me know when you need more testing.

Oops I spoke too soon.
The names of the programmes seem to be truncated in the timer list, and also when viewing/editing them in the editor. They seem to record OK and are listed correctly in the recordings list

Have you updated your server as well, the timer protokoll has changed.

Hi Marten.  I had the CVS from late on 29/10 so I thought I was up to date.  I have updated again, and now all is well, thanks.  BTW I found a daylight savings bug with repeating timers - this is probably VDR however?  Repeating timers (set for every day of the week for example) when setup before DST changed last week are now 1 hour too early.  Re-creating them fixes the problem.  Also, repeating timers only show the first event in vomp.  As a suggestion, it would be good to show the days like VDRadmin-AM does, or as a minimum flag that it's a repeating timer.
